Please find on the enclosed CD a free version of Smilefile Viewer. Using the instructions below install this software on as many computers in your practice as required.

In order to view your model you will need:
  1. A copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer (available free from www.microsoft.com)
The software will only run through Internet Explorer.

Please double click on the following 2 items to install them:

SFReader
Smilefile Viewer v1.2.1

Computer Hardware Requirements:

  1. Intel PC running Microsoft Windows: 2000 SP4 / XP
  2. Known brand graphics card, such as NVIDIA, ATI etc.
  3. Updated Graphics card driver (the latest available)

Minimum

  1. Intel Pentium PIII
  2. 512MB RAM
  3. OpenGL graphics
  4. 64MB Graphics Card



Once the software is installed load ‘Smilefile Viewer’ from either:
  1. The icon on your computer’s desktop (please ensure the software loads in Internet Explorer, not an alternative web browser),
or
  1. From your Windows toolbar select Start–>All Programs–>Smilefile Viewer->Smilefile Viewer
Note: If you receive a Security prompt when loading Smilefile Viewer make the following change to the Internet Explorer settings to prevent this from happening:
  1. Select Tools->Internet Options
  2. Select the Advanced tab
  3. Scroll down until you see the Security settings
  4. Check the box for Allow active content to run in files on My Computer
  5. Select Apply and OK (note: in later versions of Internet Explorer it may be necessary to Restart the program)


Loading demo models:
  1. 2 demo models have been included on this CD.
    1. 'Model 1', located under the 'Demo Models' tab, is a set of start models.
    2. 'Model 2' is the corresponding finish models.
  2. Using the instructions below, feel free to browse these models. Included with 'Model 1' are Little's irregularity index, the Bolton Ratio and the pre-treatment PAR score (these analyses are available on request, please contact JJ Thompson for more information).
  3. Included with 'Model 2' is the corresponding post-treatment PAR score and overall PAR score improvement.
Loading models:
  1. Click on the Open icon from the Smilefile Viewer toolbar
  2. Locate the model files – your models are located on the CD in the Model Files folder.


Rotating models: Ensure the 'Rotate' tab from the 'View controls' box is selected.
Left-click anywhere in the model window and drag to rotate.
Fixed axis rotation: Fixed axis rotation is available under the 'Axis Rotation' button.
Zooming out/in: Left-click anywhere in the model window and drag up/down to zoom out/in.
Pan around models: Left-click anywhere in the model window and drag to pan.
Single arch views: Select the 'Upper', 'Lower' or 'Both Arches' tab as required.
Pre-defined views: Pre-defined views are available in the 'Views' box.



Cross-sections: Cross-sections of models can be viewed through the 'Enable/Disable' x-section button.
Use the 'Flip' button to change the cut-away part of the model.
Measurements: Single measurements are available by clicking on the 'Measure' button. After clicking on the 'Measure' button simply select 2 points on the surface of the model and the straight line distance will be displayed in millimeters.
In-built analyses: 'Demo Model 1' includes examples of Little's index, Bolton Ratio and pre-treatment PAR score analyses.
'Demo Model 2' includes post-treatment PAR score analysis.
To view the analyses simply click on the required analysis tab on the right hand side of the screen (to return to the model viewer, simply select '3D model').
